To Journey: A People Must Have a Root
Hotep, Islam, Shalom, Greetings Family:
I was doing some yard work one weekend, and noticed one of my young Arbor Vitae (e.g. Ever Green, Pine) tree, lifeless and dried up. I quickly dug down to see if the roots were intact, to possibly resuscitate the tree. To my dismay, the root system was all damaged; the grubs and other insects made it a food source. I reflected upon the logic of what happened to my tree:
In its journey to grow and reach up to the sun, its roots were devastated, being nourishment for other organisms, never having a chance to cast its own perpetual presence in my landscape!
That reflection got me thinking, about a many other things, dependent on a root or support system! All being part of the whole, I realized, we too, as a human species are dependent on a root system, emphatically! Even more so, why a certain group of people are more prone to shorter livelihoods, self destructive behaviors, and self mutilations? Then, later in the week I saw a commercial for a Bayer's Weed Away product, that would kill weeds and the tough crabgrass, but not the lawn itself. You guessed it, all through the root systems --selectively choosing what gets dusted! Let me get back to basis. It's our roots and culture that drives us to grow and reach higher heights!
Unfortunately, man of us live and thrive as just appendages/fruits of the plant/tree/people! Never being fully aware, conscious, cognizant and/or journeying of the direct vitality of our existence --THE ROOT! So, just like the Bayer weed products, the root system and all that it supports, can be targeted --brainwashed, indoctrinated, judas goated, poisoned-- with many deficits on the proper functioning of a people! The yield goes to the noun --person, place or thing-- that controls the root! Too often, we get these "Fruit" class minded people, that'll absorb as much resources as they can, with benefit only to themselves; all the while destroying their root/support system, just to get consumed errantly or brushed away because of their plump individualistic mass.
When the fruit, trunk and root systems are all working in tandem and respect of itself; you get natural and floral masterpieces, such as the Cactus and Baoboa trees! All for one, and one for all --and I'm not talking, "Brand Nubians" hip hop troupe--, is the depiction of such creations. Many think this is faith or religion, which would be like the first thin-knuckled branch just before the fruit. Surely, it's a starting point, to then move on, and align oneself with the root and whole system. Just know there's much more, and don't get hung-up on de-leveraged points! Most importantly, if you don't know, go in quest or journey to know!
Even without the Bayer style institutions, there are tons of grub eating peoples, making lives, cultures societies and world domination off of our root system. Trust, its been going on for millenia now, and until we wake up: first to acknowledge our root, then to reunite to protect and grow from it! Others will keep us in states of distress, benefiting from our root --by destroying what was original-- and taking our fruit! Go in journey of self, because a people must have a root . . .or you must enjoy being a fruit! =O
